The End (Series of Unfortunate Events #13)

Wow. He pulled it off. One of the best endings I've ever read. He not only wrapped things up nicely, which is the most you can expect for most series, but his was a higher challenge because he had to do two additional things: (1) it still had to be sad and unfortunate or it would ruin the point of the series, (2) it had to deal with lots of open questions. It managed to land the plane in all three cases smoothly and perfectly. The children's' ending with taking care of the baby and going off on their own accord back to the world to face the world in all its highs and lows. Olaf dying still the villain and not redeemed but "more understood". Lots of sad things and decisions by tons of characters. Yet managing through it all to show that you have to experience the pain to know the joy. And you're not alone in any of it. The series of unfortunate events isn't just the description of the Beaudilares lives it's more importantly about life in general for everyone everywhere. That said, as a favorite quote from this book said, "They didn’t want to shelter us from the world’s treacheries. They wanted us to survive them”
